Running Windows Vista Operating System From Browser
Did you ever got a idea of running a operating system from a browser?? Here it is,Windows4all. It is a Microsoft silverlight based prototype of online virtual operating system called as Webtop or a cloud computer.Basically this website emulates Windows Vista operating system inside a web browser. You can access the same at Windows4all.
It partly replicates the desktop environment and you can run the applications without installing them.It requires Silverlight 3 support in your browser.Basically applications will run in silverlight sandbox.I tested this in my mozilla browser. It includes applications like Internet Explorer,Media player,Notepad,RSS reader,Calculator,Paint and even games like Chess.
The cool feature i liked is the IE browser.I opened my blog techpouch to test browsing capabilities inside this cloud computer.
Main advantage of this is a personalized desktop available accessable from any computer and from anywhere and its a freeware.Disadvantage is applications will not come with all the features and it is not a full Operating system.
One more intresting feature is it includes notepad. If you write and save that,it will be saved in the My Documents of that cloud computer. You can open the saved files when you visit windows4all,the next time on the same computer.I think it will use some hardware address mapping for viewing your saved files.
